The Mikhails inhabit a small, island nation that is just northwest of the Amarena Trench, north of Hin-Klia and south of Ghanidash.

Mikhailistan is a wealthy, liberal democracy situated on an island that has long protected the country from excessive outside influence. At the island’s heart is the towering Mount Slopumy. Cities and fertile agricultural lands are situated near each end of the island. Despite the lack of many natural resources, seaports have given rise to strong trade ties, placing Mikhailistan at the center of the contemporary Mirian economy and institutions. At the same time, few migrants reach the island from neighboring countries, particularly given the dangerous Amarena Trench that lies to the south.

A rich, post-industrial economy has allowed the population to flourish. Most of the population is engaged in the high-tech or service sector. The country’s military is traditionally somewhat small but well equipped with the latest technologies. Nonetheless, the country’s coastal cities are increasingly threatened by rising sea levels driven by climate change. A strong environmental movement has flourished and pressured successive governments to become a leader in the fight against climate change and to stop the spread of nuclear technologies.
